Hi, I'm Kristy, founder of Seasons of Home. I am so glad you're here and I can't wait to meet you!
I've called Austin home for more than 15 years, and I've been working with the aging population for nearly that long. I hold a Master of Social Work degree from Texas State University and previously worked as a social worker for a home care agency, helping older adults and their families navigate caregiving needs and connect with community resources.
As a mother of two, I have become more and more familiar with the practice of home management, which I hadn't thought much of in the past. It is incredibly similar to office management, only the roles, processes, and procedures aren't usually explicitly defined. Responsibilities such as retrieving mail, paying bills, planning meals, grocery shopping, cleaning, doing laundry, and keeping up with medical appointments and medications are enough to make anyone feel overwhelmed. For those who are aging, struggling with physical disabilities, or dealing with memory loss, small things can start to fall through the cracks without anyone realizing until it becomes a big problem.
For the past 3 years, I've had the privilege of being a companion to an older woman living with dementia. Her home had become overwhelmed with boxes, clutter, and paper. We worked together to make her home better support her everyday needs. I rearranged furniture, created a filing system to help us organize her paperwork, and arranged her home so the things she used most were easy to reach and find. When she moved into memory care, I helped make the transition easier by arranging her furniture, hanging cherished pictures, and organizing her belongings so her new room felt like home from day one.
All of these experiences inspired me to create Seasons of Home. I saw how much a person's home surroundings can affect their quality of life, and how overwhelming it can be for older adults and their families to figure out all the details of making a home safe, functional, comfortable, and personal.
As your certified Senior Home Safety Specialist, I'm excited to help you feel more comfortable in your current living situation—whether you’re staying where you are or navigating a brand new season of life. I'm here to help.
